The nickel phosphorus alloy is a material that has a number of advantages over other metals used in engineering applications. It is a highly corrosion resistant material that can withstand a variety of environments, including oil drilling and coal mining. It is also known for its improved properties of hardness, ductility, and stain resistance.

Several types of nickel phosphorus alloys are available. Phosphorus is incorporated into the nickel through an electrochemical process using either a hypophosphite salt or borohydride reducing agent.

Density of the nickel phosphorus coating is inversely related to the phosphorus content in the alloy. Generally, the density of nickel phosphorus coatings ranges from 8.5 g/cm3 for very low phosphorus deposits, to 7.75 g/cm3 for high phosphorus electroless nickel deposits.

Increased lubricity and wear resistance – Ni-P electroless plating can be heat treated to create a natural lubricity that reduces friction and makes the part more durable. It can also be heat treated to improve magnetic response.

Even coating for complex parts requiring restoration – When a part requires repair, electroless nickel plating can be used to create a strong, durable layer of corrosion-resistant coating over the area. This prevents damage to the original finish, and ensures a precise application.

Progress for Industry (PFI) offers electroless nickel plating services that can coat as thin as 0.000025″ and as thick as.020″. They specialize in tight-tolerance plating applications across CNC machining, military, and injection mold industries. With a variety of high phosphorus, medium phosphorus, and low phosphorus baths, PFI can plate parts for any engineering application or tooling protection.
