High temperatures are able to produce a nickel-steel alloy with exceptional yield and tensile properties, as well as creep fracture characteristics. The nickel alloy is versatile and can be used from low temperatures all the way to long-term, 1200°F use.
Inconel718 has one distinctive feature. It contains niobium to enable age hardening. By adding niobium to the mix with molybdenum, the alloy matrix is strengthened without any heat treatment. Aluminum and titanium can also be added to popular NiCr alloys.
It is simple to make this nickel-steel alloy and it can be welded under precipitation or annealing hardening conditions.
