Aluminium oxide can be described as an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Al2O3. It is a high-hardness compound that has a melting temperature of 2054 degC and boiling point of 2980 degC. It is an ionized crystalline that can be easily ionized at high temperatures. This crystal is commonly used in the production of refractory materials.
Industrial alumina is made from bauxite, Al2O3*3H2O and diaspore. Chemical methods are used to prepare Al2O3 with high purity requirements. There are many Al2O3 isomorphous crystals. More then 10 types are known. There are generally three crystal forms of Al2O3, which are a-Al2O3,-b-Al2O3, or g-Al2O3. They all have different structures and different properties. At temperatures over 1300°C, it can be almost entirely converted into a Al2O3.
