Is Niobium Carbide NbC Hard?

What is Niobium carbide NbC? Niobium carbonide Is a form of metal carbide having the chemical formula NbC.
The appearance of Niobium Carbide is a brown-gray metallic powder with purple luster. It belongs to the sodium chloride type cubic crystalline system.

8.47 is the relative density. The lattice coefficient a=0.447nm. The melting point of corundum is 3500. Microhardness > 23.5Gpa, or more than 2400 kg/mm2, which is much harder than that of corundum. Elastic modulus 338000N/mm2, thermal expansion coefficient 6.65x10^(-6)/K, thermal conductivity 14w/(m*K), heat of formation-140.7kJ/mol, specific heat capacity 36.8J/(mol*K), resistivity 35mO*cm.
Insoluble in both hot and cold hydrochloric Acid, sulfuric Acid, and nitric acids. It is also soluble and dissolves in hot hydrofluoric Acid and nitric-acid mixed solution. It is stable at 1000 to 1100 and quickly oxidized into niobium pentoxide at 1100. To form an isomorphous solid mixture, you can melt it in titanium carbide, zirconium caride, and tungsten carbide.

Niobium carbonide is a highly refractory ceramic that is extremely hard. This makes it ideal for wear protection and machining applications. It is commercially used to make tool heads for cutting instruments. It is often used as a grain growth inhibitor in cemented carbide and is typically processed using sintering. It is highly resistant to corrosion.

What is Niobium-Carbide NbC Used for?
1.It is a material with good chemical stability and high high-temperature performance. It is used extensively in refractory materials high temperature additives and cemented carbide.

2.Niobium carbide is a ternary/quaternary carbide solid component that is used in hotforging die, cutting tools, jet engine turbine blade blade, tail skirt, and rocket nozzle coatings with tungsten carbide or molybdenum.

3. It can be used as a carbide cemented carbonide additive. It can also be used to make a purple artificial gem.

4. This material is used to produce wear-resistant films as well as semiconductor films. It can also serve as a raw material to produce molybdenum caride, and for the fabrication of chromium free special alloys and engineering clays.

What is Element NB?
Nb (atomic name: Nb; atomic number 41) is a fifth family, fifth period element and D block having an atomic weight 92.90638. Nb's Bohr-model Nb contains 2, 8, 18, and 12 electrons, and its electronic configuration [Kr] is 4d45s1.
Nb, as an element, has a gray metallic appearance. Nb, which is the third most magnetically penetrated element of all three elements, has the highest magnetic penetration depth. Nb can be found in pyrochlore which is its main commercial source and uranium deposits.

What is the chemical stability of niobium carbide?

What does NbC powder mean?
Niobium carbonide is an green cubic crystal with metallic luster. It belongs to the type of cubic crystals that are sodium chloride-type. It has high melting points, high hardness, and is faster than corundum. The insoluble substances include hot and cold hydrochloric, sulfuric, and nitric. These compounds are only soluble when they are mixed with hot hydrofluoric or nitric. The melting of Niobium Carbide in titanium carbide or zirconium caride, tungsten, or tungsten carbonide produces an isomorphic solid solution. It can then be used in the production of cemented carbide, heat-resistant alloy, and cermet. Cemented carbide that contains niobium caride can have refined grains and better performance. This cutting tool has good thermal hardness and resistance to thermal shock.

How is NbC powder applied?
Because of their hardness and high melting point as well as excellent chemical stability and electrical conductivity, composite ceramic materials from composite clay materials are used often in cutting tools, wear-resistant parts and electrodes.
Cemented carbonide can be used to inhibit cemented-carbide grain growth. It can also form the third phase other than WC and Co with other carbides. This will significantly increase the thermal hardness and thermal shock resistance as well as the resistance to hot pressing and oxidation of cemented carbidide. Cemented carbide tool material can be prepared using Niobium carbide. This is due to its benefits of improving hardness as well as increasing fracture toughness.
The hard niobium carbonide hard phase in the surfacing-covered electro enters the structure and enhances its wear resistance. This wear-resistant alloy of covered electrodes surfacing is more durable than the quenched No.45 Steel (HRC50) but it's 1.21.8x as strong as that of Fe-Cr–C-B. The surface can still be covered with the hard-facing layers. Additionally, they can be easily welded to it without heating. They won't spread to the base material. The addition of small amounts of niobium carbonide during steelmaking to the steel strength phase can produce the benefits of precipitation strengthening.

Many aerospace components can be used to prepare parts for other equipment, like turbine rotors or gas rudders.

Chemical Properties of NbC dust
The green cubic crystal Niobium carbide has a metallic luster and is of sodium chloride type. The relative density is 8.47. There is a lattice coefficient a=0.447nm and the melting temperature is 2300. It is much harder than corundum because the microhardness of >235GPA (>2400kg/mm2) is higher. The elastic modulus of 338000N/mm2 and the thermal expansion coefficient 6.65x10-6/K are both below the threshold. Thermal conductivity is 14.w/(m). K; and the generated heat for 1 chemical books is 40.7kJ/mol. The specific heat potential is 36.8J/mol K and has a resistivity of 35 m? It is insoluble in both hot and cold sulfuric acids, hot and low hydrochloric acids, and nitric Acid. However, it can be dissolved in a mixture of hot hydrofluoric acid or nitric. It's stable from 1000 to 1100, and it quickly oxidizes in a hot mixed solution of hydrofluoric acid and niobium peroxide over 1100. The melting of niobium carbide in titanium, zirconium, or tungsten carbide creates an isomorphic solution.
